Yallahs Ford reopens to traffic
THE Yallahs Ford in St Thomas, which was closed following the passage of Hurricane Dean two Sundays ago, has been reopened to traffic.
According to senior communications officer at the National Works Agency, Colin Morrison, reinstatement work on the ford was delayed because of continuous downpours in the parish over the last few days.
He said the river flow has been redirected into the western culvert, its original channel prior to the hurricane.
“Huge boulders and river shingle have been used to restore the area downstream of the western culvert, which was considerably eroded during the passage of the hurricane,” Morrison said.
Additionally, he said the approaches to the ford that were inundated and littered with boulders have been cleared and restored to their original use.
He, however, warned motorists to exercise caution while crossing the ford.
