House firebombed in Rockfort
Violence flared once again in the tough Rockfort community Monday night when arsonists set fire to a house.
There were no reports of fatalities, but the incident happened a mere three days after gunmen slaughtered seven persons, including a four-month-old girl and an eight-year-old boy, in the community.
According to the police, the incident happened minutes after eight Monday night when a group of men was seen throwing a liquid substance on the house. Shortly after, fire was seen coming from the roof and windows.
The fire was later put out by units from the York Park and Rollington Town fire stations.
Meanwhile, the police said they were processing several men suspected to be involved in Friday’s murders up until late yesterday. Two of the men were held early Monday during a raid in the community while another three were picked up in St Mary yesterday afternoon.
According to head of the Kingston East division, Superintendent Assan Thompson, one of the men is said to be the leader of the ‘Breakaway Gang’ – a group of dissidents who fell out of favour with another group known as the 100 Link Gang in the community.
Police suspect that the gang leader is involved in at least five of the seven murders committed on Friday.
