Man survives 100-yard fall from roof of shopping mall
A man yesterday fell about 100 yards from the roof of the Pavillion Mall in Half-Way- Tree while effecting repairs to the leaking roof.
The man, according to eyewitnesses, apparently lost his balance while carrying out the repair work. He is now in hospital being treated for broken limbs and other injuries.
“Me think it was a bucket a drop when me see the thing coming down. When me look good, me see say is a man drop! Him land pan him hand dem,” one man said.
The unidentified man landed in a mud puddle close to an automated banking machine in the courtyard of the plaza.
Onlookers say both his hands were broken.
“His two hands break bad, the bones were protruding upwards,” one woman told the Observer.
The man slipped in and out of consciousness and seemed to have also suffered neck and head injuries even though there was no bleeding, the woman said.
“It look like him hit his head and his neck seemed to be hurting him, but it look like his spine not too damaged because him was able to move him foot,” the woman said.
Other onlookers said the man lay on the ground for about half an hour before he was taken to hospital.
“We never know what to do and we never want to hold him bad and make him injury worse so we wait a little until some man couldn’t take see him on the ground and put him in a vehicle and speed off,” a man who gave his name as Charles Williams said.
