The 2007-’08 track and field season in western Jamaica will get under way next Saturday with the staging of the second annual Custom Marbles and Design COMETS Classic pre-season track meet at Cornwall College, starting at 10:00am.

The meet which has so far seen several school and club teams from all over the island confirming their participation will feature ‘over-distance’ events being contested and is open to all age groups from Prep/Primary to Open classes.

Meet Director Lynden Thomson said they would be including events ranging from 80 metres for the Prep/primary age group through to 3000m.

There will be 150m for male and female in Classes 1 through 4; 300m in Classes 1 through 3; 600m and 1200m for Classes 1 and 2 while the Open Class runners will contest the 1500m and 3000m events.

There will also be relays- 4x300m and Distance Medley for the older age groups while the Prep/Primary schools will contest the 4x100m events.

COCAA Western girls champions St Elizabeth Technical will headline the high school section that will also include- Anchovy High, Albert Town, Claude McKay, Little London, Maldon, Marcus Garvey, Petersfield, Maud McLeod, Central, Brown’s Town, Old Harbour, Muschett, Rusea’s, Green Island and Titchfield.

Host club MoBay COMETS heads the clubs/institutions section that will also see- Ebony TC, the newly formed Atletico Union, GC Foster and Tornado while the Prep/Primary section will have Anchovy Primary, Edwards Prep, Montego Bay Prep, St James Prep, Success Primary and Mt Alvernia Prep.
