MoBay Chamber sponsors Gully Ambassadors
Montego Bay, St James
The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry fulfilled its promise to sponsor a club in the St James Football Association with a cheque for $150,000 at last weekend’s 75th anniversary ball.
Chamber president Pauline Reid had made the promise earlier this season and according to Orville Powell, president of the St James FA, the money would be used to sponsor newly promoted Division One team, North Gully Ambassadors.
Reid had told Observer West earlier they are fully committed to the project and want to be involved in all aspects of the club and according to Powell had asked that the team be from the inner city.
Powell said while they waited on word from Sandals Montego Bay whether they would renew their sponsorship of the Division one competition, they were seeking sponsorships for each of the 14 teams set to take part.
He said they had approached several business entities already and had received sponsorship from one other company, Globe Insurance.
Powell said they had not decided which team would benefit from the Globe sponsorship but an announcement would be made soon by which time he hoped they would have received more sponsorship.
The president said they had already started drafting up the fixtures for the Division One which he said would kick off soon.
