August Town man shot dead
A man who the police described as an enforcer from the gritty August Town community of St Andrew was shot dead Friday night in Liguanea.
According to the police, 37-year-old Patrick ‘Lazzy’ Buchanan, a construction worker, was gunned down shortly after 8:00 pm while standing under a shop piazza on old Hope Road.
Police said the murder was committed by one gunman who shot Buchanan in his face and other parts of his body.
The murder caused a traffic snarl on the normally busy road.
His mother, who was beside herself with grief, had to be consoled by a male friend at the sight of her son’s lifeless body sprawled on the asphalt.
A policeman stationed in Half-Way-Tree described Buchanan as having “a very colourful past” in August Town, stating that he was the leader of one of several ‘factions’ in that area.
“His past supersedes him,” the policeman said, as the murdered man’s mother wept behind the yellow police tape.
His sister, who did not want to be named, said her brother survived a similar gun attack in 2006. She said, however, that he was well loved by residents in the community.
“If them say him a area leader, him was a good one. Them shoot him up year before last and him survive, now them come back come finish him off,” she lamented.
