Police capture most wanted man, ‘Dinero’
A little more than 24 hours before the police announce a refreshed list of wanted men, one of the men on that list was nabbed during an operation in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew Saturday evening.
Robert Brown, also called ‘Dinero’, was held in a house in the rural St Andrew community by a deployment of cops from Operation Kingfish and Jamaica Defence Force soldiers.
Police say while they recovered no firearm, Brown was held with a quantity of ammunition and a cutlass. No one else was arrested.
Police say Brown is wanted for five counts of murder and five counts of shootings.
Today, the police are expected to publicise a new list of the 10 most wanted criminals at a press conference at the police commissioner’s office.
Police say Brown is one of the leaders of a breakaway faction from a gang based in a community known as ‘Common’ on Red Hills Road, which imploded after Brown and his cronies allegedly attacked and killed Ezra Patrick and injured three other people, including Common strongman, Cleveland ‘Cassie’ Downer.
The incident happened the morning of the Jamaica Labour Party annual conference in November 2006 as Downer and others were issuing party shirts.
Since the attack on Downer, more than 30 persons have been killed, a number of others wounded and many families have been displaced.
Assistant commissioner of police in charge of the Kingston and St Andrew Major Investigation Task Force, Les Green, hailed Dinero’s capture as a great result.
“This is a great result for us and our investigations into activities at certain communities in Red Hills Road,” Green said.
Sections of Red Hills Road have been tense in recent weeks with a spate of murders and shootings in various communities along the upper section of the once vibrant strip.
In addition to the slaying of Patrick, police suspect Brown of involvement in the murders of Clive Baker and Camille Daley who were killed last July, Tamara Marshall, who was shot dead a month earlier and a recent murder in Papine, St Andrew.
Brown’s arrest comes 19 days after the arrest of Stone Crusher gangster, Eldon Calvert, who was taken from a house in Wood Grove, Trelawny.
Three other most wanted fugitives, Gerald Taylor and Dryden brothers, Deon and Wayne, have been shot and killed.
