It’s Game Five in WBA finals
MONTEGO BAY, St James
Inner-city Avalanche has forced a deciding Game Five in the Western Basketball Association’s (WBC) Lucozade Sport men’s Championships after winning last Sunday’s Game Four 66-63 against Hoopers at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
This Sunday the teams will meet at the same venue but this time the title will be on the line.
Avalanche have come from behind twice to stave off defeat and will hope to carry the momentum from last week’s game into this weekend’s game.
Despite playing on a rain-soaked court last week, both teams produced an exciting game that went down to the line, but it was Avalanche’s Cleon Morgan’s 16 points, three rebounds and five steals that made the difference for the Gaulton Taylor-coached team, while Chayne Topey hit some big shots in the second half to push the series to this weekend.
Avalanche trailed 10-15 after the first quarter but had a big 24-13 second quarter to lead by six points 34-28 at the half-time break.
Hoopers stormed back in the third quarter to tie up the game at 45-all going into the fourth quarter, but it was Topey’s brilliance that gave Avalanche the edge in the final period and extended their season.
Topey ended with 13 points and six rebounds while leading the comeback.
Nicholas Day was the top scorer for Hoopers with 13 points while Andrae Morgan added 10 points and Ryan Bolt scored nine points.
