Fund established to aid Gustav relief efforts
A number of remittance agencies have agreed to open accounts dedicated to enabling Jamaicans in the Diaspora to contribute to the Gustav Recovery Fund that has been launched by Minister of State for Project Implementation and Service Delivery, in the Office of the Prime Minister, Daryl Vaz.
The agencies include: Jamaica National Building Society through its remittance arm, JN Money Transfer services, as well as GraceKennedy Remittances Services, through Western Union, have agreed to open dedicated accounts to enable Jamaicans in the Diaspora to contribute to the fund too. The funds are Hurricane Relief United Jamaica Account for GraceKennedy and in the case of Jamaica National, the JN Recovery Fund Account.
The funds from JN and GKRS accounts will help to meet the cost of the emergency works and relief measures that are being carried out with particular emphasis on schools and hospitals.
The public is being advised to make donations at any JN or GKRS (Western Union) locations in the South Florida area. All remittance fees will be waived for contribution to those accounts.
