Gunmen kill four in brutal attack on family
Four persons including a 14-year-old girl were late Saturday night shot dead and a six-year-old boy left nursing gunshot wounds, following a brutal attack by gunmen on a family in Halls Delight, Papine, St Andrew.
The dead were yesterday identified as Janet McGann 36, otherwise called ‘June’; Yucal Thompson, 31; Simone White, 14 and Alty Thompson, 41. The injured boy was not identified.
CCN reports are that about 11:30 pm, the five were among family members at home when men armed with guns kicked open a door and opened fire on them. McGann, White and the two Thompsons’ died on the spot. The injured child was taken to hospital where he was admitted in serious but stable condition, CCN said.
“…The information we are receiving at this time is that the killing could have been a reprisal for another murder in the area,” a police spokesman told the Observer yesterday.
Detectives from the Major Investigations Task Force yesterday said they had commenced investigations into the shooting.
In other incidents over the weekend, the body of 18-year-old Oshane Brown of Clifton district, St Elizabeth was yesterday found hanging at his home yesterday.
CCN reported that a family member discovered the body hanging by a length of rope from an ackee tree on the premises about 8:40 am and called the police. The body was removed to the morgue for post mortem. The New Market Police are investigating.
In another case, 15-year-old Sherika Heslop of Salkey Avenue, Duhaney Park, Kingston 20 has been reported missing from home since Friday. She is of dark complexion, slim build and about 163 centimetres.
Police reports are that the girl left home for downtown Kingston and has not been seen since. She was wearing a purple blouse, blue jeans pants and purple shoes. The Duhaney Park Police is asking anyone knowing her whereabouts to contact 933-4280, police emergency 119 numbers or the nearest police station.
Over in Frankfield, Clarendon, 89-year-old farmer, Ira Anderson was found dead on his farm. The Frankfield Police theorised that the farmer could have been attacked by cattle he had gone to attend to.
