Boys Club Warriors, Junior Avalanche meet in WBA first encounter

MONTEGO BAY, St James

Boys Club Warriors and Junior Avalanche will have their first encounter in the Western Basketball Association’s (WBA) Men’s Championships season tomorrow at the Montego Bay Cricket Club at 5:30 pm.

Six clubs will take part in the new look league which got underway on Sunday with Railway Tigers beating Granville Wolfpack 57-49 at the same venue.

Among them are the top teams from last season as well as Catherine Hall All-stars who took part in the Jamaica Amateur Basketball Association’s National Basketball League, also expected to compete in the new NBL-west due to start mid-April.

Come weekend the league will continue with three more games.

Central Flames, whose opening game against Hopewell Vipers was washed out on Sunday, will face Tigers at 5:00 pm, followed by Wolfpack against Junior Avalanche at 7:00 pm. On Sunday, Vipers and Warriors will meet at 5:00 pm.

Tigers held on to a good start Sunday to beat a late charging Granville who pulled to within two points late in the fourth quarter.

Tigers led by four points 16-12 at the first interval and increased it by two to lead 34-28 at the half time break.

Wolfpack managed to draw to within two points midway the fourth quarter but Tammy Davis who was one of two Railway players to score 13 points, scored several crucial points down the stretch to preserve the victory.

Davis grabbed 14 rebounds to go with his 13 points while Caustant Holness also scored 13 points while Detroy Jewery scored nine points.

Jomo Johnson also scored 13 points in backing up Uter for Granville.
