Viamerica plans to increase Ecuadorian charters to Ja
MONTEGO BAY, St James
A plan to welcome a series of weekly chartered flights out of Ecuador to Jamaica, is expected to materialise in February, according to a senior tourist official.
The plan for the Viamerica tour company to facilitate the flights is still in its fledgling stage, however, tourism officials are optimistic against the background of last week’s arrival of a charter flight bearing 100 visitors from Ecuador.
The flight, which landed at about 12:30 pm two weeks ago, resulted from the tourism ministry’s efforts to tap into non-traditional markets in the face of the current global recession. It followed on last month’s arrival of a familiarisation trip from the same destination arranged by the Maxi Travel tour company.
Just under 200 visitors who were hosted by the Spanish Riu hotel group and the Jamaica Tourist Board came on that trip.
