NCB trainee programme gets UCJ accreditation
THE University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) has granted accreditation to the National Commercial Bank’s (NCB’s) Management Trainee Programme at the postgraduate diploma level.
“This is yet another achievement for the NCB Corporate Learning Campus as it earned recognition as a registered tertiary institution by the University Council of Jamaica in 2007,” noted a release from the bank.
On a continued course to enhance the competences of NCB employees, the Group Human Resources Division developed a next-generation learning and development strategy and pursued accreditation of some of the programmes that would have been developed, such as the Management Trainee, Branch Management and the Institute of Leadership and Organisational Development programmes.
“In keeping with this strategy, our objective was to offer programmes of external value to employees which we anticipate could facilitate exemptions from courses being offered by other tertiary institutions,” said Rickert Allen, senior general manager, Group Human Resources Division.
The UCJ expects the institution to continue the implementation of measures that will strengthen the programme. These include establishing mechanisms that will monitor the academic standard, constant review and further development of the programme, as well as developing the teaching component that will ensure that delivery of the programme is of the highest standard.
NCB management trainees are exposed to various courses with the aim to increase their knowledge base of the financial industry, as well as equipping them with the necessary skills that will shape their careers to becoming first-class bankers. The trainee programme covers all areas of banking, which also includes business development. In addition, they are trained in the areas of business and social etiquette, leadership and supervisory skills and communication.
