We are Jamaicans… Not PNP or JLP
WHETHER you voted or not, your member of parliament is there to serve you.
Once you live in the constituency, the MP is your political representative and you have the right to make certain demands of him/her.
Although, quite arguably, some people expect too much from their MPs, in the Jamaican context their roles are unclear – particularly since they have no known job descriptions. Over the next few months, the Sunday Observer will be visiting all 60 constituencies and asking Jamaicans to rate their MPs in our “We are Jamaicans” series.
Dear Mr Smith,
After lengthy discussions with the people in your constituency, the following four issues emerged as the most pressing:
1. Residents of several communities in the constituency are calling for the dilapidated roads to be fixed.
2. Residents throughout the constituency say they do not have ready access to you since you have no set constituency office hours.
3. Residents want you to have the necessary repairs effected to the Alexandria market so vendors can ply their trade in comfort.
4. Residents throughout the constituency say there are no skills training facilities in the area.
Yours sincerely,
Ingrid Brown
