MEET Me Halfway finds Black Eyed Peas (BEP) sticking with the electro-hop beats that dominate The END (Energy Never Dies), while adding in some vintage ’80s pop stylings for good measure.

Fergie even channels Madonna on the chorus, coming off sexy, yet vulnerable, as she yearns for a romantic reconcialition. The song in another study of contrasts — sounds retro yet futuristic — is emotionally resonant, making it a hat-trick of world-class singles for the Peas after Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling.

The music video has been confirmed by will.i.am to be directed by Ben Mor (director of I Gotta Feeling). This is a very different type of video — Boom Boom Pow was very futuristic and I Gotta Feeling had a party vibe — but this is a most artsy of the videos.

The music video opens on a road in the middle of a desert panning up to the cosmic sky. The video takes on a fantasy theme with each of the Peas in a distinct setting: Fergie in a lush, green, mystical forest; Apl.de.ap levitates on a desert planet in nomadic clothing; Taboo orbiting the sun in a spacesuit; and will.i.am riding an elephant on the moon of Jupiter.

Apl.de.ap takes out a map and will.i.am uses a compass to search for a path to the other members.

After a while, will.i.am finds a dial, which reveals gateways for each of the members to go through. All the members use a stargate and turn into shooting stars, and land on the planet (presumably Earth), with the road in the middle of the desert.

Unlike the two previous videos of the album, this doesn’t end with the phrase ‘The END (Energy Never Dies)’.

There is a storyline as well — the guys are on a quest to save Fergie. It is very much like a beautiful sci-fi movie.

We love the song, and the video is very beautifully made.

The BEP have garnered so much mainstream success since the current members formed BEP in 2003, that both they and their label have no choice but to put out decent material for the public.
