Beeston Spring Village goes to Switzerland
THE producers of Swiss National Television’s multiple-award-winning Simply Luxurious series, which ran from 200-2007, recently visited Beeston Spring Village, Westmoreland, to prepare a travel documentary for its new programme.
The documentary — a tour of Beeston Spring Village — features a community welcome for a Swiss visitor, Andrea, who experienced the novelty of preparing and enjoying a traditional Jamaican breakfast with her hostess Rena Lawrence.
Swiss National Television producer Jochen Frank and his team also captured Andrea enjoying traditional folk entertainment provided by the Mighty Beestons Mento Band, while a group of young villagers enjoyed dominoes, a favourite Jamaican pastime.
The tour, which was led/conducted by one of Countrystyle’s community/host guides, Angel Mitsy White — a Rastafarian who is direct descendant of Nanny of the Maroons — also featured interesting snippets of conversation.
The new programme will feature four or five fascinating stories — love stories, success stories, dreams come true, hopes and disappointments — about the life of the people.
Viewers will be provided with information on how to reach Jamaica, tips on preparing for the trip, island culture and other exciting aspects associated with travelling around Jamaica.
Chairman/CEO of the Countrystyle Community Tourism Network Diana McIntyre-Pike said that the programme will assist in paving the way forward for marketing the Countrystyle Tourism Village Community Experiences in Switzerland and other European countries.
Village Co-ordinator of Beeston Spring Astil Gage and the Beeston Spring Community Development Committee also expressed delight at being chosen for the programme.
Beeston Spring Village has received numerous awards from the National Best Community Competition as well as a recent J$500,000 grant from the Sandals Foundation to assist them with the further development of community tourism.
