W’House, Rivoli draw
RIVOLI United and 10-man Waterhouse played out a hot-tempered goalless draw in yesterday’s start of the third round of the Digicel Premier League at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
In a fixture which featured this season’s top two marksmen — Devon Hodges of Rivoli with 14 goals and Kevin Lamey of Waterhouse with 12 — the game had more instances of overt physical agression than creativity.
In the early exchanges, both teams struggled to cope with the windy conditions and were guilty of many rash challenges. Rivoli, perhaps, held a slight edge on possession due to the fact that they were a bit quicker on and off the ball.
It came as no surprise when referee Raymond Bogle, after being advised by one of his linesmen, showed Waterhouse defender Rohan Amos the red card for an off-the-ball incident involving Hodges, who saw yellow for his role.
The second half followed the same script of the first despite both teams putting the ball on the ground more often to counter the wind. Waterhouse, despite being one short, were particularly impressive in doing so and should have taken the lead approximately 70 minutes in the game when leftback Kemar Thomas held off the challenge of Mark Newsome and booted from an angle from five yards out, but watched in agony as his effort rebounded off the woodwork.
In another result, Tivoli Gardens defeated Humble Lions 2-0 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
