West Indies women shine in Sydney cricket league
SYDNEY, Australia (CMC) — West Indies players Deandra Dottin, Kirbyina Alexander and Stacy-Ann King have recorded wins with their teams in the latest round of the Sydney Women’s First Grade competition.
Gordon Club, with Dottin and Alexander, snatched a narrow win over St George-Sutherland and King’s Eastern Suburbs got past Northern Suburbs by eight wickets.
The Jamaica and West Indies all-rounder Shanel Daley was part of the St George-Sutherland side that lost by three runs to Gordon at Glenn McGrath Oval.
Batting first, Gordon scored 205 for nine off their 50 overs.
Elizabeth Howell (62) and captain Hannah Perry (51) were the chief scorers while Alexander, batting at No 7, got 28.
Dottin, who had strong performances in recent wins against Sydney and Universities, scored only 11.
Daley claimed two for 34 for St George-Sutherland, who replied with 202 all out off 49.1 overs.
Nicola Carey (77) top scored and Daley failed to score for St George-Sutherland in their last over defeat.
Kristy Williams (3-46) led the Gordon bowling while Alexander (1-30) and Dottin (1-44) shared two wickets.
At Waverley Oval, King picked up one for nine to support Sally Moylan (5-25) in wrecking Northern’s innings for 89 in 33 overs.
Eastern then cruised to victory at 90 for two in 18.5 overs with Rebecca Wyborn stroking an unbeaten 43.
