Angels on the job
HEBREWS 1:14: “Angels are servants, they are spirits sent from God to care for those who will receive salvation” (NLT). It is a comforting feeling to know that we actually have angels assigned by God to watch over us. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:2 that we should show hospitality to strangers because we just might be entertaining angels unknowingly. That is quite a sobering thought!
The jobs performed by angels for the most part often go unnoticed and are more than likely taken for granted. Bear in mind that angels are on the job 24/7. We can all easily recall those narrow escapes from imminent danger, those seemingly lucky breaks in dire circumstances and those instances when someone turns up to help us out of emergency situations. However, some of us still adamantly choose to believe that these happenings are just mere coincidences or lucky breaks.
The truth is, God being the loving Father that He is, has always commissioned the angels to watch over us and protect us from danger. There is a popular myth that portrays angels as cute little babies with wings. But Psalm 103:20 tells us that angels excel in strength; they do the commandments of the Lord listening keenly to His voice. The job of angels is varied and unique, tailored to suit individual situations. Angels are God’s “Secret Service Agents” who are constantly on the job and will never be found drawing unemployment somewhere in heaven! We just need to become wise and humble enough to acknowledge them.
Eternal Father, we are so grateful for the angels that You have commissioned to encamp around those of us who fear and revereYour holy name. We pray that our nation would come to acknowledge Your goodness, faithfulness, mercy and love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
