Filming Mum

Filming Mum

Hollywood has long had an affinity for the baby bump, and whether it’s reflected in comedies, thrillers or dramas it is likely the trend is here to stay.

Baby Mama

No-time-for-a-man career woman Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) discovers she’s infertile and hires an unlikely surrogate Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler) who moves in and turns the businesswoman’s life upside-down.

Children of Men

Children of Men creates a chaotic world in 2027, in which humans can no longer reproduce. We watched with bated breath how Theo Faron (Clive Owens) helps a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea in an effort to have scientists save the future of humankind.

Father of the Bride II

Dealing with his daughter as a bride-to-be was tough enough, but in the sequel George Banks (Steve Martin) must accept that his darling little girl is not only a wife but also an expectant mum.

Juno

A quirky comedy of errors, Juno tells the story of offbeat teenager Juno MacGuff, who sleeps with and gets pregnant by her equally dorky best friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). What’s more, the young girl struggles with the unplanned pregnancy and the decision to give up the child for adoption.

Knocked Up

We loved the story of E! TV reporter Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) who, after a one-night stand with irresponsible party boy Ben Stone (Seth Rogen), shows up on his doorstep eight weeks later to tell him she’s pregnant. What follows is a comical-but-heartfelt journey of self-discovery and love.

Look Who’s Talking

Bruce Willis lends his voice to baby Mikey, who provides comic relief from his journey as a foetus to his toddler years.

Nine Months

Nine Months tells the story of commitment-phobe Samuel Faulker (Hugh Grant) who, upon realising his longtime girlfriend Rebecca (Julianne Moore) is pregnant, panics at the thought of settling down.

Precious

Based on the novel Push by Sapphire, Precious is a riveting tale about an illiterate, obese teenager who is pregnant with her second child. But despite hardships and setbacks aplenty, the heroine Precious (Gabourey Sidibe) tries to steer her life in a new direction.

Riding in Cars With Boys

Based on a true story, Drew Barrymore portrays Beverly Donofrio — a single mother with dreams of becoming a writer, who has a son at age 15 in 1965, and goes through a failed marriage.

Sex and the City

Everyone has a friend like Charlotte York (Kristin Davis)… you know, eternally sweet and a tad naïve. But who could forget the scene in Sex and the City when fab mum-to-be while pausing from a day of shopping ‘bumped’ into her BFF Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) bane Mr Big (Chris Noth) and the “I curse the day you were born!” line that followed.

Incidentally, she was so charged her water broke and Big, who had become persona non gratia, had to take her to the hospital.

The Nativity

It’s one of the oldest stories told… and in 2006 it was reimagined once again for the big screen and viewers got to see another glimpse of how Mary and Joseph journeyed to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus.
