Doctors to stage cancer benefit performance
The Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) in association with the Jamaica Urological Society will host its second annual benefit performance, Doctors on Stage for Cancer, on Sunday March 7 on the lawns of Jamaica House.
Lincoln Robinson, chairman of the JCS fundraising committee, speaking recently at a breifing at the JCS office in Kingston, said the performance will include talented members of the medical profession such as pianist Dr Kathy Brown; comedian Dr Michael Abrahams; Dr Audley Betton and Dr Annette Crawford-Sykes, among others.
“We are trying to present the doctors in a different light,” Robinson said. “They will not be in their gowns and carrying stethoscopes, but will be with their guitars and providing an evening of fun.”
Highlights of the show will include performances by some of the country’s premier entertainers, George Nooks and Lloyd Lovindeer, backed by the highly acclaimed Fab 5 Band. Emcees for the event will be Dorraine Samuels and Michael Anthony Cuffe.
According to Llewelyn Bailey, assistant general manager of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), “Doctors on Stage for Cancer will project a lighter side of the continuous and courageous battle with cancer,” said . As the main sponsor of the event, he said JNBS was aware that the battle against cancer was expensive, ongoing and was worth the society’s full support.
The Wisynco Group Limited, Supreme Ventures and Happy Ice are also sponsors of the event.
