Overwhelmed?
PSALM 61:2: “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Do we sometimes feel that we have much more than our share of challenges? Have we ever simultaneously had every difficulty occur?
We may be dealing with challenges at work, at school, in our friendships, with our finances, with our family members, our spouses or significant others or even with our health all at the same time! At those times the easy road is to become angry, cynical, bitter, resort to the blame game and even jump to the conclusion that God is not on the job. Actually, it is precisely at this time when our faith must kick in! Someone once said: “When we can’t figure it out, we have to faith it out.” We must not buckle under; these are just character-building trials.
We must allow God at these times to lead us to the Rock that is capable and willing to handle all our challenges. Doing this produces character, refines the integrity of the heart, takes away the desire to play games and gives us a compelling testimony of God’s goodness, power and faithfulness. Remember, God never said we would not have adversities, but He promised that He would not allow them to overwhelm us. Furthermore in Isaiah 41:10: God’s word says, “Fear not for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God…”
Eternal Father, we thank You that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. When we are faced nationally with what appears to be insurmountable challenges, we are comforted by Your sovereign presence for we know that You are never flustered or out of control. We are also confident that all things are working together for our good because we love You and are called for Your purpose.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
