My Kingston – Christopher Lawe
What are your earliest memories of Kingston?
Walking home from Hillel with my brothers with not a care in the world.
What do you miss when you are not in Kingston?
Friends and family.
What are your favourite
home comforts?
My bed and my kitchen; I love to cook.
What would you do if you were mayor (of Kingston) for a day?
I would want to do something that would leave a lasting impression on people’s minds. I would take unfortunate and poor persons and give them a day of lavish luxury. Some amazing food, a shower, and health checks… the works. I have been blessed with so many fabulous memories and would at least want to give them one too.
Share with us the title of the last book read.
Rich Dad/Poor Dad and 1 Minute Manager.
What’s your middle name?
David
And the last bit of music that stirred your soul?
Etana, her voice and natural beauty amazes me every time I see and hear her. Also, just last week I saw Latice Crawford perform a song called Peace on Sunday Best. It struck a chord within me.
Which cologne are you currently splashing?
I’m not really up to date with the latest colognes. But I do know what I like and what smells good to me. I’ve been addicted to Hugo Boss ever since I was given my first bottle by my high school sweetheart. I like it, whether it’s the scent or sentiment… who knows.
What’s your preferred beverage?
My favourite drink for the past two years has been “Musgrave Madness” from Friday’s, but recently if drinking at all, red wine is my drink of choice.
What was your most memorable meal in Kingston?
My brother is a professional chef so my most memorable meal would have to be when he cooked a pasta dish from scratch, rolled the pasta from flour and the whole works.
What are your current projects?
Trying to produce the number one and number two Rookie Agent of the Year again for 2010; making sure that Liguanea Branch remains the top earner for Sagicor; completing my Chfc (Chartered Financial Consultant); and oh, trying to finish decorating my office.
What upsets you?
To temper me is near to impossible, but I get annoyed when people do not respect my time and people who lack regular everyday manners and common courtesies.
Name the last three places visited on holidays.
My last real vacation was an Alaskan cruise some time ago, but I went to Cayman week before last, Florida a little before that and I’m heading to Vegas next week.
Share a few places in your
black book.
Norse Hill, Portland: an amazing rustic estate tucked away in the hills of Portland overseeing the ocean.
Juneau, Alaska.
Flying low in a small plane over the midlands of Jamaica (I’m also a licensed pilot).
Periwinkle at the Ritz Carlton, Cayman.
London is a must.
Name some of your all-time musical favourites.
Etana has been a favourite of mine for the past few years. It’s hard to name songs because there are so many I love, but my favourite local tunes are lover’s rock and conscious tunes. I love John Holt’s If I Were A Carpenter and Anthony B’s Nobody Want to Plant di Corn. Really, there are so many.
What’s your advice to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
I would definitely tell them to visit Strawberry Hill; it’s Kingston away from Kingston.
What’s your philosophy?
Live, Love and Laugh is what I usually go by. But I really do believe that hard work pays off one way or another and that we have been given a gift from God just by being here. Be optimistic and thankful. A negative person rarely sees and/or seizes opportunity. Life is a journey and we must know what we want out of it, it isn’t always going to be easy. But we must be courageous; keeping in mind that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is the judgement that what you want is greater than your fear.
