Focus on the conductor
HEBREWS 12:1b and 2: “Let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” In order for an orchestra to function at its optimal level all the members must give the conductor their undivided attention. An experienced and talented conductor leads with impeccable precision and is acutely aware of every discordant note; nothing escapes his scrutiny. He works anticipating a trophy award production!
This analogy describes the relationship we must have with our Lord Jesus, being the author, finisher and conductor of our faith walk. He guides us and directs us towards achieving our highest goal which is the prize for the high calling in Christ Jesus. It is therefore imperative that we pay close attention to His directing so that our performance will both gain His approval and give Him pleasure.
We may be required to achieve very difficult roadblocks along the way, and sometimes will have to endure sacrificial rigorous training. At these times we must, like Jesus, go through these hurdles looking towards the joy of attaining our final goal. We must not become distracted, buckle under pressure or become discouraged, but remain steadfast and by faith keep looking to Jesus for His divine direction and loving guidance. With this resolve and focus we will gain our highest goal of everlasting life with our redeemer Jesus Christ.
Eternal Father, as a nation we commit to keep our eyes on You, as You lead us towards our final goal of redemption. We believe that we will experience restoration and righteousness and be a nation whose God is the Lord.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
