Same Spence-Jarrett?

Dear Editor,

It is now public record that Commissioner of Correctional Services Mrs June Spence-Jarrett has been transferred by the Public Service Commission to the Public Broadcasting Service.

Is this the same June Spence-Jarrett who was castigated by a retired jurist who chaired the enquiry into the Armadale tragedy?

If this is the same individual, how come she is now placed in an area that has jurisdiction over public broadcasting to the nation? Is this the person whom we the people would like to see in this sensitive area?

I’m also disappointed in the Public Service Commission which, as you may recall, was appointed by the prime minister after his dismissal of the previous commission. It seems to me that members of this new commission need their tenure reviewed. They must have known of the scathing report by the chairman of the Commission of Enquiry into the Armadale tragedy. To re-appoint this lady to Public Broadcasting is wrong and insensitive. Lord help us.

Dr Paul Wright
