The unconscious rest
MATTHEWS 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” At the very first inclination that our relationship with Christ is not as close as it should be, we must immediately ask God to re-establish the gift of reconciliation and rest in Him. Never allow this disintegration of our relationship with Christ to remain. Wrestle against it, do not tolerate it, and quickly become Christ-conscious.
Beware of allowing self-consciousness to linger, because in slow yet subtle degrees it will awaken self-pity which is self-destructive. The more Christ-conscious we are, the less self-conscious we will become until we attain the perfect unconscious rest in Him! If we try to overcome self-consciousness by our own common sense methods, we will in fact be increasing in self-consciousness.
The expectations of Christ when He invites us into His rest is that we become as trusting children depending on Him to care for us. We must simply believe His word which is clearly outlined in the preceding verse of the one quoted above. Here’s a paraphrase: Come, I will teach you, I am humble and gentle, take my yoke and burden in exchange for yours, mine are easy and light, in me you will find rest and peace for your mind, will and emotions – the unconscious rest!
Eternal Father, today we choose Your rest, we simply believe that You love and care for us and so we willingly enter into Your rest. We consciously fling off every care and burden that seek to encumber us and we rest in the peace of our relationship with You. It is from this position of rest that we speak grace and peace to our nation Jamaica, land we love. We thank You for the restoration of righteousness, peace and love to our nation.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
