Former MoBay deputy mayor dies in Texas
Former Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Councillor Paxton Scott died peacefully at his son’s home in Texas, Sunday last.
He was 77.
A long-time resident of Spot Valley, St James, Scott had gone to the USA to seek medical treatment for cancer.
A strong advocate of local government, he was councillor for the Rosemount/Salt Spring division and served as deputy mayor in the ’70s.
While at the St James Parish Council, he sat on six of the 15 statutory committees, including water, roads and works, town and development planning, and traffic.
Scott was also a senior Justice of the Peace (JP), chairman of the Mount Zion Prep school board and BITU parish organiser. He attended Calabar Theological College in Rio Bueno, Trelawny and was an elder in the Mount Zion United Church of Jamaica and Grand Cayman.
His wife, Una Scott, a former manager of Radio Jamaica’s (RJR’s) Western Bureau, and other members of the family were at his side when he passed away. He is also survived by daughters Donna in London, Opal in The Bahamas, Paula in Florida and son Junior in Texas, as well as many grandchildren and other relatives.
On February 25, former PNP Councillor for St James Horace Lawrence passed on and was laid to rest on Saturday, March 13.
