Jetsetters take lead in SVL Div ‘A’ League

JETSETTERS ‘A’ have taken an early lead in the Supreme Ventures Limited/Jamaica Netball association (JNA) Division ‘A’ League competition following last Saturday’s round of matches at the Leila Robinson Courts.

The C Lloyd Walker-coached Jetsetters have won five consecutive matches from as many starts to lead Division ‘A’ with 15 points.

Ravens are in second place with 12 point from four wins in four outings, while UWI Revolution, Ebony Strikers ‘A’ and Blades United ‘A’ are in joint third place with nine points each.

Last Saturday, Jetsetters defeated Maxfield Park 43-25 after they leading in all four quarters. At half-time the winners led 19-13.

Shooters Shantel Edwards netted 37 goals from 45 attempts for the winners, while Kamillia Strachan scored 13 from 24 for the losers. It was the third defeat for Maxfield from five games.

Meanwhile Ravens, coached by Christopher Smart — the only other unbeaten team in the Division — held on for a close 33-31 win over Alexander Strikers ‘A’.

The Strikers were losing their third game from four outings. Phyllis Thompson with 16 from 19 and Novelette Vassell 11 from 14 scored for Ravens, while Crystal Duffus got 24 from 38 attempts for the losers.

Newcomers UWI Revolution, coached by Conrad Parks, got the better of SPEG ‘A’, 45-41, after leading 27-20 at the interval.

The winners trailed 33-35 at the end of the third quarter, but fought back in the fourth to clinch the match.

UWI Revolution were winning their third game from four starts, while the defeat was SPEG’s second from three outings.

Alicia Williams netted 37 from 57 attempts for the winners, while for the losers Crystal Grant got 22 from 23 and Neisha Wolfe, 19 from 23.

Ebony Strikers ‘A’ chalked up their third win from four matches as they defeated Hampshire ‘A’, 49-26. Hampshire were losing their third game from five starts.

The winners led 25-12 at half-time, with Lorraine Lewis notching 43 from 51 attempts for Ebony ‘A’ and Karen Kidd 20 from 23.

Blades United ‘A’, coached by Rowan Byfield, made it three wins from five games by beating the Roy Pryce-coached Molynes United ‘A’, 40-37.

Blades led 22-19 at half-time and staved off a late challenge from the losers in the fourth quarter. Kayan Cousin got 17 from 23 and Amarita Smith 17 from 27 for Blades ‘A’, while Shantal Slater netted 36 from 47 for the losers.

Waulgrovians ‘B’ chalked up their second win from five games by getting the better of Molynes ‘B’, 33-31, in a close encounter. Molynes led 22-16 at half-time and 28-23 after the third quarter before the winners fought back in the fourth to secure victory.

Andriesha Palmer scored 21 from 24 attempts and Taniesha McKenzie 12 from 19 for Waulgrovians, while for Molynes’ Camille Moulton netted 17 from 27 and Rashida Whyte 13 from 25.

Meanwhile, in the Supreme Ventures Division ‘C’ League, Blades United and SKIBO ‘C’ lead the table In Zone 1 with 15 points each from five straight wins.

Blades ‘B’ gained a walk-over against no-show Maverly ‘B’, while SKIBO ‘C’ defeated Liguanea United ‘B’, 21-4. Job’s Lane and Molynes United ‘C’ played to an exciting 18-18 draw to share third place with 10 points each.

In Zone 2, GC Foster Strikers ‘B’ are on 12 points from four wins, with Boulevard Baptist and Alexander Strikers in joint second with 12 apiece, but from five games.

In other results: GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ defeated Police 24-21; Alexander Strikers ‘B’ whipped East Central 40-7; Boulevard Baptist suffered their first defeat at the hands of Duhaney Strikers ‘A’, losing narrowly 20-19; Springfield beat Millennium Strikers 36-22, while there were walk-overs for Hagley Park ‘B’, Liguanea United ‘A’ and Duhaney Strikers ‘B’ against Hampshire ‘C’, Greenwich and Hampshire ‘D’.
