Four General Etiquette Skills For Guys

In past times, a man was not just viewed as a ‘man’. He was valued as a gentleman. A gentleman was much appreciated and being gentleman like was a noble thing. A lady would gladly run to a man if she was in need of help. Today, she runs away from him. This is simply because that level of respect she once had for him is long gone with the changing world… gone with time.

It is possible to get back that level of respect and where a lady can stop saying, “Gone are the days when a gentleman would…”. There is still hope.

These are just basic advice that will contribute to your ultimate success. Who know, these etiquette skills may allow you the chance to represent your school or get promoted in a job?

1. Open the door for a lady.

Picture this scenario ladies, you are walkin with bags in hand, struggling to carry them. You finally get the chance to rest your aching hands in KFC. A young man comes along and passes you on the step. You are relieved that you don’t have to struggle to balance all the bags while trying to push open the door with your body, because you’re expectinhhim to hold the door. You look up only to see the door swinging back in your face; he is long gone. A gentleman should always hold the door for a lady.

2. Do not interrupt.

Don’t pull a ‘Kanye West’. Let people finish what they are saying before adding your thoughts. By interrupting others you show the world that you have poor etiquette and you lack social skills. If you have something to say and you think you are going to forget, jot it down.

It seems that some men today, think they know everything, so they don’t have to listen to what others have to say. Just think of yourself three years ago; you are much smarter and experienced today, aren’t you? Yet you thought you knew it all three years ago. Listen to and respect others.

3. Do not spit.

This is done almost on a unconscious level for some guys. This is not only crude, but not too pretty to look at. One of the worst things to see is to be engaging in a conversation with a guy and then he turns his head to spit. Without even saying ‘I’m sorry’, he resumes the conversation as if nothing happened. Saying ‘I’m sorry’ does not excuse you either. Do not spit in public unless you want to look like you were raised on a sidewalk.

4. Respect your elders.

Some guys are not guilty of this, and you are to be commended. However, there are some out there, who won’t even budge when an elderly man gets on the bus and has no seat. Some may say it’s because he’s a man and ‘man doe gi man seat’. Please look beyond that. He’s your elder – don’t make him ask!
