Last week was the first edition of TECH 5 introducing some really cool and exciting gadgets that are yet to be released and sold to the public. However, instead of waiting around for those to come out, why not explore the arena of some other gadgets to keep us occupied.

This week’s TECH 5

1. Apple iPad

The Apple iPad is an amazing new invention that takes “The Year of the Tablets” as they call it to a new dimension. With its ultra-portability of a height of 9.56 inches (242.8 mm, a width of 7.47 inches (189.7 mm), depth of 0.5 inch (13.4 mm) and weight of 1.5 pounds (0.68 kg) Wi-Fi model and 1.6 pounds (0.73 kg) Wi-Fi + 3G model, gives a new, innovative and fun way to use your PC. The Apple iPad gives businessmen, TEENagers and the average user a chance to be swept away by this new technological brainchild.

2. Radioisotope Battery

Tired of the short lifespan and battery life of your laptop and cellular phone? Tired of having to walk around with your charger in search of an outlet? How about a change? Scientists have recently found that nuclear-powered batteries can solve our problems. The new radioisotope battery is the size of a penny and provides much more power than the traditional ones because, according to the researches, its capacity is very superior. The new nuclear battery would bring a solution based on a liquid semiconductor (rather than a solid semiconductor) that will produce a much longer lifetime for the battery. The reason is that the solid semiconductors are attacked constantly by some radioactive elements used by other types of batteries, while the liquid semiconductor is quite resistant to these attacks. Wow, how awesome would that be?

3. Nintendo 3DS

Good news to all Nintendofanatics, Nintendo has announced its latest hand-held gaming console, the new 3DS. The Nintendo 3DS is said to be able to produce 3-D effects without the need for any special glasses and the effects are currently speculated to be based on autosteroscopic imagery generated by liquid crystal displays (LCD) with parallax barrier technology. Nintendo also plans to include a 3-D joystick and a force feedback system and will feature significant improvements in wireless communication and battery life while providing compatibility with Nintendo DS.

4. I-O Data DVD Writer- U8E

I-O Data has come back, and unleashed its latest technology, the new U8E. This latest DVD writer is powered by writing speed of up to 8x for DVD-R, 6x for DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x for CD-RRW. In addition, this new portable DVD writer, just 20mm thick features the latest USB 2.0 interface, and comes with the Nero Express Essentials software for better burning of data.

5. Motorola i1

Motorola, along with Sprint, has introduced its latest technology,the new i1 Android-powered Smartphone. This latest device is the first to be made with a push-to-talk feature. It is also the first Android-powered smartphone to have a device that is made by Sprint and was designed to carry out the features of a modern smartphone including a 3.1-inch 320 x 480 HVGA touch screen technology, Wi-Fi that supports Flash 8, and an optimised browsing experience with the latest Opera Mini 5 for you to browse over the Nextel National Network. Furthermore, it was also made with a solid body construction that meets military specifications for protection against dust, shock, vibration and blowing rain, low pressure, salt fog, humidity and solar radiation which you cannot find in other normal devices. In addition, it includes the Swype keyboard entry system and XT9 for those who like texting old school. It also boasts a five megapixel camera with flash, geo-tagging, and panoramic capabilities provide crisp and clear photos. Whew, what a multifunctional little gadget!
