Whitney Houston in hospital with respiratory problems
Disappointment: Diva Whitney Houston has postponed three more dates on her European tour and is receiving hospital treatment for a 'respiratory infection'.

Whitney Houston in hospital with respiratory problems

Whitney Houston’s troubled comeback has been dealt another blow after the singer was forced to cancel more dates on her European tour on doctor’s orders.

The US singer was believed to be in a private hospital today in Paris being treated for nose and throat problems.

Her record label confirmed the 46-year-old was unable to make her two gigs in Manchester on April 8 and April 9, plus her Glasgow concert on April 11.

It comes on top of her postponing her Paris concert yesterday (Tuesday), delaying the European leg of a world tour that received a rocky reception in Asia and Australia.

RCA Label Group, part of Sony Music Entertainment, said in a statement: “Doctors visited Whitney late last night in Paris and confirmed that she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection.”

“Upon medical advice Whitney has been advised that she cannot perform to allow her time to recover.” French media reported on Wednesday that she had been admitted to hospital suffering from throat and respiratory system infections.

The American Hospital in Paris, a private hospital, which treats many prominent individuals, said it could not comment on any patient issues.

Her Manchester gigs have been rescheduled for June 16 and 17 while her Glasgow show is now planned for May 1.

According to Sony, Houston is next set to perform on April 13 in Birmingham, England.

Mariah Carey goes surfing with her dogs… but it’s a wipe-out for one pooch

Mariah Carey shows off her surfing skills and manages to balance on a board while holidaying in Puerto Rico.

Joining her in the water were her three dogs, JJ, Cha Chan and Dolomite.

But it seemed there just wasn’t enough room for all four of them — with one pooch seen in mid wipe-out.

Maria is taking inspiration in Puerto Rico where she is writing new material for her Christmas album, set for release with Mercury Records later this year.

Meanwhile her husband Nick Cannon has revealed in an interview that he thinks it’s funny when people call him ‘Mr Mariah Carey’.

The stand-up comedian and actor made his comments in the latest issue of JET.

Cannon, 29, who has been married to the pop diva for nearly two years, says: ‘That stuff is humorous to me.

The ‘Mr Carey’ stuff is not an insult to me… If I were an insecure individual or if that was true that type of statement — that I am a ‘boy toy’ or ‘yes man’ and all that type of stuff — [that] would bother me.

‘But anybody who knows me or talks to me for five minutes knows clearly that’s not the picture.’

Serena Williams dwarfs beau Common on the red carpet

Serena Williams and her boyfriend are a rare sight on the red carpet, but they looked quite at home at the premiere of his new movie.

The tennis pro and the rap star Common, real name Lonnie Rashid Lynn, made an appearance at the opening of Date Night at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York.

And Serena cut an imposing figure in towering heels, dwarfing her 38-year-old partner, who plays Detective Collins in the new comedy.

She even took to Twitter to mention the heels, which boosted her frame several inches above that of her partner.

The Wimbledon champion tweeted: ‘Wearing the highest heels ever crazy!!!’

She also thanked stylist Nikki Burchiere for her jacket, by the late Alexander McQueen.

Williams matched her heels with an understated, long-sleeved LBD, complete with a navy blue Alexander McQueen waistcoat and her hair cut into a stylish fringe, while Common wore a striped shirt with a grey tie, cardigan and trainers and a pair of dark blue jeans.
