Put your money on Fluffyin O’Sullivan Mem Cup

Fluffy looks all set to go from strength to strength in this dynamic field.

Daughter of Chelsey Cat out of Carol’s Littlebit (Above Normal), she won her last race over 1,400 metres with much in hand and was being stretched out for the first time in her racing career on local soil. Her final time of 1:253 for 1,400 metres, and the manner in which she acquitted herself at the distance, gives the impression that she will enjoy another 400 metres in present company.

Although coming to the grade for the first time and giving weight to some of her most serious rivals, Fluffy has trained industriously for the longer trip and is looking to win her fourth race of the season from five starts that will present champion and leading trainer DaCosta with his third consecutive trophy success. Jockey Omar Walker, who has already won twice aboard the pacy filly, will again ride.

Down in grade, early second favourite Prime Minister and lightly weighted early third choice, Go My Robin look certain to be Fluffy’s biggest challengers. Prime Minister, a hardened two-turn specialist who won the JRTA Trophy in November of last year and a

SECOND best in the Jamaica 2,000 Guineas, one of the two first Classic races for the season, champion trainer Wayne DaCosta go in search of his third consecutive feature race win at Caymanas Park today when he saddles the imported three-year-old filly Fluffy in the $715,000 Calvin O’Sullivan Memorial Cup over 1,820 metres on the diminutive nine-race card. First post is 1:30 pm.

An Overnight Allowance race for three-year-olds and upward, a field of 12 will run and which is rich in talent enough to make the event highly competitive with nine colts and geldings, a filly and two mares present.

In addition to Fluffy, the inform late running colt Go My Robin, three-year-old colt Sulamani, recent winner Prime Minster, winners and consistent performers over the distance Spaceman and Naval Commander, along with My Space and Tobago, all look well tuned to run pleasing races.

Currently, the pre-race favourite, the Elizabeth DaCosta & Edmond Thomas’ three-old, dark bay, brown filly dynamic performer over today’s journey, returned to active competition on March 17, but had no answer to Fluffy’s stable mate Cassanova Boy over 1,800 metres. He has, however, continued to work well and now dropped in class can prove to be more competitive with his now comfortable 54.0kg. Jockey Dane Nelson gets the call from trainer Richard Todd.

The ultra-consistent and stretch-running Go My Robin stepped down in grade on last just to be run out of it close to home over 1,600 metres. However, the Newton Walfordowned and Wesley Perkinstrained four-year-old chestnut colt is readied once again to fight and with the light weight of 47.0kg still in place and apprentice Georgina Sergeon in the irons, Walker and his American-bred filly with 52.5kg, will not be on an afternoon stroll.
