What really is the fare?
Dear Editor,
I am a UWI student and recently a taxi driver asked me to pay an increased fare from Irvine Gate to Papine. At first I was taken aback because I thought that the price increase on April 1 was only for the JUTC buses as private transport operators had received their increase earlier in the year. Because of the possibility that I was mistaken, I paid the taxi driver his asking price.
Since then I have travelled on another taxi and I’ve been charged the regular $50 fare from UWI to Papine. Therefore, I seek some clarification as I have searched your online articles for such information, but I have not found a clear answer.
I would appreciate it if anyone could assist me in this matter, either in directing me to a previous article that spells out the government’s decision regarding fares (buses and taxis) or to an individual or agency which can assist me.
