Asafa, Walker headline UTech Classic
A number of Olympic and World Championships medalist including Melaine Walker, Shericka Williams, Asafa Powell and Michael Frater are scheduled to compete at the tomorrow’s third staging of the University of Technology (UTech) Track and Field Classic at the National Stadium.
Based on the start-lists provided by the meet organisers, a number of mouth watering races should be on-show.
Former World 100m record holder Asafa Powell will contest his first 200m since 2007, when he faces American Travis Padgett and Xavier Brown. The women’s equivalent will feature Olympic and World 400m silver medallist Shericka Williams, Berlin 200m finalist Anneisha McLaughlin and Rosemarie Whyte.
The men’s 100m will also be hotly contested where Nesta Carter, Yohan Blake and Michael Frater —the third, fourth and sixth fastest Jamaicans of all times will square off.
World sprint hurdles gold medallist Brigitte Foster-Hilton will face Sherone Simpson —the fourth fastest Jamaican female along with Schillonie Calvert and Puerto Rican Jennifer Gutierrez in the women’s equivalent.
World and Olympic 400m hurdles champion Melaine Walker will square off against two-time World Junior medallist Sonita Sutherland in the 400m.
