Lennon, Christiana win in schoolgirl football
DEFENDING champions Lennon High and Christiana High set up a deciding final Group One match in the ISSA League after scoring their second consecutive win in the second round of the competition Friday.
Rhonda Rhoomes’ late strike saw Lennon to a 1-0 win over hosts Ardenne, while Sashana Campbell scored a hat-trick and Shanika Anderson netted once as Christiana turned back St James 4-1 in Montego Bay.
The wins put the teams atop the group with maximum six points from two matches, with Lennon having a better goal difference, which would put them into the the final four if there is a draw.
In other results, St Jago registered their first win in Group Two, beating Wolmer’s Girls’ a 2-0, after their opening game was rained out last Friday.
Lasandra Ruddock and Jodian Morris were the scorers for St Jago.
In the group’s other game, St Hugh and McGrath battled to a 3-3 draw.
In Group Four, Trench Town rebounded from their draw with Bridgeport last Friday to blank Tacius Golding 3-0.
Shaneka Williams, Trudy Carter and an own-goal accounted for Trench Town’s goals.
Meanwhile, three games were rained out.
