Coke, McNee for World Junior Badminton Champs
Two Jamaican youngsters, Dennis Coke and Anthony McNee together with national junior coach Howard Ranger left Jamaica on Saturday to participate in the World Junior Badminton Championships which are being staged in Guadalajara, Mexico from April 16 to 25.
The boys will participate in singles and doubles only of the individual events which start tomorrow. The team event runs from last Friday through to yesterday, with today being a rest day.
Dennis Coke, a St Anne’s High School student is Jamaica’s male national junior badminton champion, having taken both the singles and doubles events in the All Jamaica Junior Badminton Championships in October last year, while Anthony McNee of St Jago High was his doubles partner. McNee was also the mixed doubles champion. Both are products of the Jamaica Badminton Association’s Inner-city Programme.
Jamaica last participated in these championships in Pune, India in 2008 when Gareth Henry and Chadwick Parsons were the representatives.
