Lennon advance after demolition job on Christiana
CHAMPIONS Lennon High advanced to the semi-finals of the ISSA/Locker Room Sports Schoolgirl football competition after a 6-0 demolition of Christiana in their final and decisive Group One second-round match at Lennon on Tuesday.
Shanise Bowen led the Clarendon side with a brace, while a goal each came from Roshana Palache, Nashena Richards, Joy Douglas and Rhonda Rhoomes completed the rout.
Lennon finished atop the group with maximum nine points.
In the group’s other game, Ardenne turned back St James 4-0 in Montego Bay, but the game ended prematurely following a bust-up between players.
In Group Four, Trench Town also secured their place in the semi-finals after slamming Oracabesa 11-0 in their final group match.
National Under-17 striker, Shanika Williams, netted seven times and Trudi Carter scored twice to lead the way for the first-time semi-finalist.
Trench Town now have seven unassailable points.
Brigdeport, meantime, lost any chance they had of making the last four when they drew 1-1 with Tacius Golding in their match. They can only finish with five points, after two previous draws.
Ackhena Martin put Tacius Golding ahead in the match, but Sherilyn Brown ensured a point for Bridgeport.
Meanwhile, last season’s beaten finalist, Excelsior, took a step closer to a place in the last four from Group Three following a 9-0 mauling of Spot Valley at Excelsior.
Nicole Broderick led the Xavier Gilbert-coached team with five goals, followed by Shaquille Pitterson with a brace and Davia Morrison and Simone Murray with one each.
Excelsior now only need a draw from their rescheduled game against Old Harbour to secure their spot in the semis.
The Group’s other game between St Elizabeth and Old Harbour High drew 2-2 with Shanika Wright and Drucel Tomlison netting St Elizabeth’s goals.
Meanwhile in Group Two, things are evenly poised with St Jago and McGrath tied at the top with six points each from two games. St Jago defeated St Hugh’s 2-0 on goals from Jodian Morris and Ronicka Blake, while McGrath stunned St Hugh’s 5-0 on a hat-trick from Macheda Davey and one each from Kessian Walker and Latoya Duhaney.
The two teams will now meet in a rescheduled (rained out) match to decide who gets the spot from the group.
