St Thomas school leagues kick off today
MORANT BAY, St Thomas — The St Thomas Co-operative Credit Union school football competitions will kick off today with an opening ceremony and dress parade at the York Oval in the parish at 1:00 pm.
In the first match of the new season, Happy Grove will meet defending champion St Thomas Technical High in the boys’ Under-15 division, with kick-off set for 1:30 pm.
The start to the tournaments was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was pushed back for today to accommodate the “resizing” of the field and goals in accordance with FIFA requirements that govern junior-level competitions.
Twenty-five school teams will participate in the Under-13 competition with Morant Bay Primary the defending champion, nine will do battle — including champions St Thomas Technical — for the Under-15 crown, while Bath Primary and Junior High should have little trouble retaining their title in the girls’ Under-16 two-team tournament.
