J’can runners off to compete in London Marathon
Two Jamaican long-distance runners, attorney-at-law Heather Facey and market research executive Kishka-Kaye Anderson, left the island Wednesday for London where they will be competing in the London Marathon scheduled to take place tomorrow.
They will join over 50,000 other athletes from several countries competing in this prestigious event.
Last year there were some 25,000 finishers in the race and it is expected that this number will top 30,000 this year. The 26.2-mile event is being run on a surface that is said to be flat and fast and hence runners are likely to clock good times. The weather is also expected to be fair for the event and this will assist the runners. Sykes and Anderson last competed together in the Chicago Marathon some three years ago and both finished the race highly placed and in under three hours and 30 minutes.
Both are carrying niggling injuries, which have hampered their training, but are still expected to do well. They will return to the island next Monday.
