Sacred Caribbean music fest for University Chapel Sunday
A feast of rich and varied Caribbean music is scheduled to take place at the University Chapel, Mona on April 25, during a special concert to mark the annual harvest celebrations of the University Chapel Anglican community.
The event will also mark the launch of the Sacred Music of Jamaica project by that community and the Institute of Jamaica. The concert begins at 4:00 pm and tickets are available at the gate.
The National Chorale, the Diocesean Festival Choir, the NDTC Singers, the Church of the Good Shepherd Choir, the Musical Apostles Steel Band, the University Chapel Anglican Community Choir, organists Dwight McBean and June Spence, Gay Magnus and David Aarons on steel pan, Professor Barry Chevannes, tenor Carl Bliss and soprano Dawn Fuller-Philips are among the featured groups and artistes.
All singers and musicians will be performing music by Caribbean composers including Bob Marley, Noel Dexter, Father Richard HoLung, Samuel Felsted, Beryl Donaldson and Marjorie Whylie.
The Sacred Music of Jamaica project is a ground-breaking, cultural initiative to collect items of sacred music in Jamaica which have not been previously published or made widely available.
