PHILADELPHIA, USA — Double world record-holder Usain Bolt led a Jamaica Gold team of runners from his Racers Trach Club to a World leading 37.92 seconds to win the USA vs The World’ 4x100m race as the 116th Penn Relays Carnival ended at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Running for the first time in the United States since he set his first world record at the Reebok Grand Prix in May 2008 and first time at the Penn Relays since 2005, Bolt got the baton just ahead of the USA Blue team and cruised to an easy looking win as he was timed in a blazing 8.79 seconds.

Jamaica won two of the five events they took part in as the women’s Sprint Medley Relay team won their events for the third straight year.

The record crowd of 54,310 screaming fans who turned out, beating the old mark of 50,827 set eight years ago, got what they came for as Bolt did not disappoint.

The team that also included Mario Forsythe and Yohan Blake broke the record 37.92 seconds that was held by USA Blue last year and was also the fastest time ever run at Franklin Field.

The previous World leading time was 38.08 which was run by another Bolt-led team, Racers Lions, set in Kingston in February.

The Olympic and World Championship double record holder said he was happy to be back at the meet and described the crowd as great,

“The crowd here has always been wonderful. I haven’t been here in a while and I was really looking forward to it. It was awesome. The experience was wonderful and I love running here. I’m looking forward to next season.”

Bolt who also ran the second leg of the William Knibb team that won the ‘Small Schools’ finals here in 2002 said coach Glen Mills had prepared them for the meet, “He even marked out just like the Penn Relays on our track, so he (his coach) was really into it.”

Bolt said that his club team beating a national team was special.

“It’s a very good stepping stone to show that our track club is stepping up and doing well. Especially on this 4×100, we’ve been doing baton changes for two weeks. We came here really focused and ready and we came out there and executed.”

The star-studded USA Blue team that had Walter Dix, Mike Rodgers, Shawn Crawford and Ivory Williams finished second in 38.33 seconds while the USA Red team of Ryan Bailey, Travis Padgett, Doc Patten and Rae Edwards was third in 38.50 seconds.

Jamaica’s second entry, Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Xavier Brown, Dwight Thomas was fourth in 38.72 seconds.

Bolt was obviously the star of the show and who most of the spectators came to see as huge cheers went up all over the stadium when he arrived a few hours before the race ad every time he left the infield paddock.

The SMR team of Schillone Calvert, Kerron Stewart, Melaine Walker and Kenia Sinclair clocked 3 minutes 35.37 seconds beating the USA Blue and Red teams, respectively.

A strong Jamaican girls 4x100m team was beaten into second place by the USA Blue team 42.74 seconds to 42.94 seconds.

The Jamaica team had Simone Facey, Kerron Stewart, Sherone Simpson, Shelly-Ann Fraser in running order.

The female 4x400m team of Rosemarie Whyte, Novelene Williams Mills, Kaliese Spencer and Shericka Williams was second in 3 minutes 27.72 seconds, while the men’s team was fourth in 3 minutes 03.40 seconds.
