STETHS whip Manchester in schoolgirl basketball
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Shanice Smith shot a game-high 16 points to lead St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) to a huge 37-3 win over Manchester High in their top-of-the-table match in the ISSA/KFC Girls U-19 Central Conference basketball competition at DeCarteret College (DC) on Wednesday.
The win means STETHS, the only unbeaten team in the conference, have improved their winning streak to four to maintain their one-point lead atop the five-team standings.
They are being closely policed by DC, who also had a comfortable 14-point (26-12) win over Knox College in the second game of the evening, to take over second place on seven points, one more than Manchester in third.
STETHS, for whom Cadeen McLean also had 12 points, dominated the entire proceeding from start to finish, leading 10-2 at the end of the first quarter, before going on a 14-0 run in the second to take a 22-point (24-2) lead into the half-time break.
STETHS were less rampant in the second half, but by this time the result was never in doubt, as Manchester could only manage to score one basket to STETHS’ 13 in the last two quarters.
In the other game, Anna-Kay McLean scored seven points and Monique Cash six points for DC to condemn Knox to their second defeat in as many games.
DC led 10-3 at the halfway stage, winning the first and second quarters 7-3 and 3-2, respectively, and then increased their lead to 10 points (18-8) going into the fourth and final quarter.
