White leads Alpha’s charge in U-16 semis
SHANAR White of Alpha Academy will again take centre stage this afternoon when the semi-finals of the ISSA/JHF Under-16 School League get going with a double header at Mona.
Zone A winners Alpha, who won all four matches, will tackle Zone B runners-up Papine at 3:00 pm, while defending champions St Andrew High battle Excelsior at 4:30.
White scored 14 of the 18 goals Alpha notched in the U-16 School League this season and coach Kirk King, in his fourth year at the school, believes she is more than just the best player in the league.
“Shanar is an exceptional talent, very unselfish. Before this Under-16 competition she would always be the person who creates the goals for the girls and most of the time they missed the chances which always gets her frustrated,” said King.
White, who was MVP of the U-14 School League two years ago, almost single-handedly gifted Alpha the title.
Papine, meanwhile, will come up with answer for White through their strategic coach Andrea Hoo Thomas. Samantha Jones, Imani Richards, Chakira Airey and Omberta Gordon will feature in any Papine attack and defence .
In the other semi-final, St Andrew will have to play a game of possession against rivals Excelsior and make use of the goal-scoring opportunities for a shot at defending their title.
Demi Nicholson and Camille Griffiths will have take charge for St Andrew as Excelsior try to mount a solid defence and strike with every look at goal.
