Traffic fatalities continue downward trend

TRAFFIC fatality figures continue to show a significant decline over last year with 87 deaths up to April 28, compared to 128 over the corresponding period in 2009.
Fatal crashes have also dropped from a high of 115 over the same period last year to 82 this year, according to data from the Transport ministry’s Road Safety Unit.
Pedestrians are the group of road users most affected, recording 38 deaths since January. Private motor car drivers, at 14 deaths, motor cyclists and private motor vehicle passengers, with 11 deaths each, are the other categories in double figures.
Last year 241 road users were killed traffic collisions.
