Record turnout for Campion golf tourney
A field of 104 local golfers, including national representatives Jodi Munn-Barrow, Jonathan Newnham, Robert Chin and Wayne Chai-Chong, teed off in Campion College’s 50th Anniversary Golf Tournament at Caymanas Golf and Country Club last Saturday.
The tournament, which was presented in association with PanCaribbean and sanctioned by the Jamaica Golf Association, had a two-ball better ball full handicap format and featured 52 men, women and mixed teams.
In first place was the duo of Paul Chin and Sheldon Barnes, followed by Dave Cameron and Winston Watson, and in third, Teddy Richards and Howard McKenzie.
Unfortunately, the large field of golfers failed to gain the ‘Hole in One’ prize of a brand new Chevrolet Avalanche, compliments of Challenger Transport, but several other team and individual player and spectator prizes were presented, including a ticket on American Airlines; weekends at SuperClubs, Jakes and Sandals resorts; gourmet dining at Courtleigh Hotel, Strawberry Hill, Spanish Court Hotel, Hilton Kingston, and Cannonball Cafe; rounds of golf at Half Moon, Sandals Upton and Caymanas; and many other special gifts from Appleton, Chukka Caribbean, Island Art, LIME, Gym Liguanea, Lascelles, JL Golf, System Administrators, WB Trophies, Intcomex, Jablum, Innovative Systems, Ramsons, and Associated Manufacturers.
In addition, Flow presented a special prize of a HD PVR box and one month’s free HD services to player Winston Watson for the closest to the hole on hole number three against top golfer of the year and Campion student Jonathan Newnham.
The golf tournament was a major fund-raiser for the school’s development plan, the Vision 2020 Campaign, which has as its priority the construction of Jamaica’s first library media centre.
