Necessary Luxury – Raymond H Walker
Raymond H Walker
Chairman & CEO Caribbean Assurance Brokers Limited.
I’m over 50, and a significant percentage of my daily activity involves reading, hence my spectacles – I cannot do without them for reading. My car key not only provides access to one of my most valuable tools, but also acts as a security alarm system while I’m walking towards the vehicle or while I’m at home. Consequently, I take my car key wherever I go; and at nights it’s beside my bed so if I hear a noise outside my home or someone attempting to break in, I set off the alarm. There is too my JCCUL/AETNA International Health Insurance Card which provides me with a great sense of security in the event of an unexpected health issue either here or abroad. It’s comforting to know that I can access the best medical facilities worldwide with very little or no cash outlay.
My watch is like my spectacles, as it keeps me focused in every sense of the word because time is of the essence.
I really do not know how I would manage without my computer. It’s a critical tool, a facilitator of communication, the lifeblood of any organisation and the lubricant to good interpersonal relationships.
Finally, there’s my BlackBerry 9700-Bold2: If you can appreciate the significance of my wristwatch and computer, you will fully understand the necessity of this splendid device to me. Apart from my ability to make and receive calls anywhere in the world, I can access information online, open and view documents, spreadsheets, power point presentations, take photographs, access maps and directions to various locations. Not to mention the use of online dictionary, calendar, calculator and numerous other applications. In a nutshell, my BlackBerry is a part of me that I just cannot do without.
