WI secure super eights spot
WEST INDIES secured their place in the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup with a rain- affected eight wicket victory over England at Providence in Guyana.
After being sent in to bat England romped to a challenging score of 191 for five off their 20 overs thanks to powerful late hitting from Eoin Morgan (55) and Luke Wright (45 not out).
At their turn of batting West Indies breezed to 30 without loss from two overs and two balls before rain halted play. After the resumption the Duckworth- Lewis revised target was 62 runs off six overs. This favoured the West Indies, and despite losing Gayle for 25 and Kieron Pollard for nought, they were able to scamper through for victory with one delivery to spare.
England now turn their attention to Ireland, whom they must beat to reach the Super Eights.
The Irish will also be desperate to win and make it to the next phase of the competition after being badly beaten by the Caribbean men in their opening game on April 30.
