Battle of the curves: Jessica Simpson takes on Kim Kardashian at White House dinner

They’re the same age and both stars of reality TV, but it is their voluptuous curves that Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian are, perhaps, most famous for. But while Kim opted for a daring plunging black dress, Jessica Simpson dressed somewhat more conservatively as she attended a

White House dinner party in Washington on Saturday night. Jessica, 29, wore a knee-length canary yellow dress, which concealed her generous proportions and wouldn’t have looked out of place on Michelle Obama herself.

In fact, Jessica was so enamoured by the American president’s wife that she revealed she would like to be her. Speaking on the red carpet at the White House Correspondents’ dinner, she told People magazine:

‘She’s such an incredible woman, and she’s with such a powerful man. Everything she does she exudes confidence. I’m really just here to celebrate her.’ Jessica was among a plethora of stars who turned out to the annual event, held at the Washington Hilton.

Actress Lynn Redgrave dies at 67 after losing battle with breast cancer

Lynn Redgrave died yesterday in New York aged 67.

The award-winning British film and stage actress, who hailed from the well-known Redgrave dynasty, passed away after fighting a long battle with breast cancer.

She had also struggled to come to terms with the recent tragic death of her niece Natasha Richardson and brother Corin, who passed away aged 70 last month.

Redgrave died at her home in Connecticut, her publicist Rick Miramontez said. She had been treated for breast cancer over the past several years after being diagnosed in 2003.

In a joint statement, her three children said: “Our beloved mother Lynn Rachel passed away peacefully after a seven year journey with breast cancer.”

Lyn was an introspective and independent player in her family’s acting dynasty who became a 1960s sensation as the freethinking title character in the film Georgy Girl.

Later she dramatised her troubled past in one-woman stage performances including Shakespeare For My Father and Nightingale.

In 1967, Lynn married and professionally partnered the British actor and director John Clark.

Together they had three children, Benjamin (born in 1968), Kelly (1970), and Annabel Lucy (1981), a professional photographer in Manhattan. The marriage ended in divorce in December 2000.

The British actress’ death comes a year after her niece Natasha Richardson died from head injuries sustained in a skiing accident and just a month after the death of her older brother, Corin Redgrave.

The youngest child of Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, Lynn Redgrave never quite managed the acclaim — or notoriety — of elder sibling Vanessa Redgrave.

However she received Oscar nominations for Georgy Girl and Gods And Monsters, and Tony nominations for Mrs Warren’s Profession, Shakespeare For My Father and The Constant Wife.

What ageism? Kristin Davis, 45, says her career is better than ever before

It may not be fair, but most female actresses accept ageism as an unavoidable part of life in Hollywood. But Kristin Davis, 45, has revealed that her career is doing better than ever before – and it’s all thanks to Sex And The City. The late bloomer says her role in the TV series, and now the films, means she has defied the trend and is basking in an all-time career high.

The brunette actress told how she used to believe she had to achieve her ambitions while in her 20s. ‘Remember when we were young, the actresses that we liked?’ she said in an interview with Red magazine. ‘They were young, even though they seemed older to us. And you thought that you had to make it in your 20s, like if you weren’t going to make it on your 20s, you weren’t going to make it. So the fact I would be turning 45 and be the busiest, most successful I’ve ever been is very, very odd. And it is all because of Sex and the City, really.’ Many concerns have been raised in Hollywood about the fate of actresses as

they advance in years, while their male counterparts often seem to enjoy more career longevity. Davis said she felt very lucky to have defied the trend. ‘I think I would have done okay without it, but I don’t think any of us would have had this kind of career at this age if it hadn’t been for the larger thing Sex and the City turned out to be,

culturally. I do feel incredibly lucky.’ Davis plays prim, doe-eyed Charlotte in the tale chronicling the romantic exploits of four glamorous and high-achieving female friends, set against the dazzling backdrop of New York. She showed off her stunning figure by posing in a

black silk corset for a photo shoot with the magazine. Despite her success, Davis said she has had to put up with her fair share of sniping over her appearance. She said: ‘You get a lot of criticism out in the world or on the internet about how you look. Fat here, fat there. Hippy this, hippy that. That has been my entire career. But

never at work. No one at Sex And the City has ever asked any of us four girls to lose weight. Thank God.’

Split? What split? Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel put on a show of unity in New York

With the rumour mill currently awash with whispers of a split, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel put on a show of unity this weekend.

The couple stepped out in the Tribeca district of New York hand in hand, putting paid to recent reports that their relationship had come to an end. Jessica, 28, looked great in a pair of denim shorts, a grey and red striped top and a grey floaty vest – matched with a pair of gold ballet slippers and a brown handbag. The couple appeared happy and content with each other as they took a walk on a lovely spring day in the Big Apple, before spending time playing basketball together at the Chelsea Piers. Timberlake’s actress girlfriend spent the previous day running for charity at the Revlon Run/Walk For Women event, alongside Jessica Alba and Halle Berry.

Last month it was again reported that the couple had split, with Timberlake’s ex-girlfriend Cameron Diaz cited as the reason for the end of their relationship. Justin is currently working with Diaz, 36, on a new feature film entitled Bad Teacher. The two are working closely on the movie in which Miss Diaz plays a foul-mouthed, junior high teacher, who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, begins to woo a colleague – played by Timberlake. It had been reported that Miss Biel was unhappy with her boyfriend, who dated Cameron Diaz for four years, working with his ex. However, she recently gave the project, which is said to include a love scene between Diaz and Timberlake, her blessing. She told E! Online: ‘I haven’t read the script, but I think it sounds fantastic. It sounds like it will be so funny. Obviously, I’m super excited for him.’ Jason Walsh, a close friend of the couple, revealed that Biel and Timberlake have a trusting relationship. ‘There’s confidence in the relationship and respect and honesty and communication. It’s rare in this world – and especially in Hollywood – that you see that and it’s kind of beautiful. I respect that a lot.’

Just last week Biel and Timberlake were seen getting cosy in the VIP lounge at Drai’s Hollywood, where music producer Timbaland was celebrating his birthday. According to an eyewiteness: ‘The two were whispering to each other as if they were the only two in the room, sipping cocktails and breaking their snuggle only to mingle with friends. ‘After a few drinks, they were escorted upstairs to watch pal Timbaland perform. The rapper gave Timberlake some shout-outs from the stage, and the singer danced on the couch, throwing his hands in the air. Biel remained mellow throughout the night – and the two lovebirds snuck out early.’
