Haile Selassie win double in LIME schools badminton knockout
Displaying a high quality of play, Haile Selassie High took both the boys and girls trophies in last week’s finals of the LIME Schools Knockout Badminton Competition at the Constant Spring Golf Club’s Racquet Complex.
The girls, who were the defending champions, had an easy day, blanking each of their opponents, St Andrew High in the semis and a depleted St Hugh’s High in the final, by 5-0. St Andrew came away with third place.
The Haile Selassie boys meanwhile, cruised by Wolmer’s 5-0 in the semi-finals, but had a fight on their hands before getting by St Anne’s High 3-1 in the final. With the tie already decided, the fifth match was not played. The boys third place play-off saw Calabar High putting away Wolmer’s 3-0.
The Haile Selassie girls had earlier in the year won the All Island Schools Badminton Championship, but the boys’ winners of that event, DeCarteret College, were unfortunately absent from the Knockout.
