Jamaica to host 120 golfers for the Caribbean Classic Tournament
The 15th Annual Caribbean Classic Golf Tournament will tee off on May 12 in Rose Hall, Montego Bay, where over 120 golfers from the Caribbean and North America will play the world renowned Cinnamon Hill, Half Moon and White Witch golf courses.
The tournament will run until May 15 with the top amateur players of the region vying for the prestigious George Noon Cup for the top amateur team of 2010.
This is the third time in the 15-year history of the tournament that Jamaica will play host and the Jamaica Golf Association is pulling out all the stops to ensure that the golfers experience the best conditions for what will be a challenging three days of golf.
The modified Stableford format will see the competition off in a shotgun start at 8:30 am each day. Tournament director David Mais is putting the final touches on the details of the tournament and advises that teams will be divided into flights based upon handicap and gender with the range of handicap in each flight being five strokes. All competitors will compete equally, within flights, with no handicap allowance.
“The JGA is excited to host this prestigious tournament as it is looked forward to by players of the region each year and we have been preparing for the last six months to ensure that this year’s event is the best ever in the 15-year history,” said Wayne Chai Chong, president of the Jamaica Golf Association.
Along with the host hotel, Rose Hall Resorts & Spa the tournament has received sponsorship from the Jamaica Tourist Board, Appleton, G4 Security, Wisynco, Barita Investments, Juici Patties, Diageo, CPJ, Margaritaville and Coral Cliff.
Chairman of the planning committee, Gordon Hutchinson says “all systems are in place for the JGA to host the tournament and the fact that players will be on two courses per day for three days, will allow them to experience the best of golf in Jamaica”. He went on to say that “we are pleased with the support we have received from all our sponsors and in particular, our host hotel, the Rose Hall Resort & Spa”.
The four days of activities will begin with a welcome reception for players, sponsors and guests on May 12, followed by three days of competition which will culminate on Saturday, May 15 with the awards ceremony at the Rose Hall Resorts Hotel. Players will also experience Jamaica’s tourism offering as they will be hosted on Friday night by both Margaritaville and Coral Cliff for a night of entertainment on the Hip Strip.
